Poor Little Pencil

Do you ever think
when you drop a pencil
its insides can shatter?

When I was a little girl
I used to think that thought
every time I dropped one.

I used to
pick it up gently,
cradle it in my
little hands.

I used to
apologise,
profusely.
My poor pencil.

But now,
no such thought passes
through my mind.
It makes you think.

When did we stop
caring about pencils?
Why did we stop
caring about pencils?

We are too busy!
We have more important things
to spend our precious time
thinking about.

Of course.

So we ignore
the poor little pencil,
that is always there.

We forget.

Sad For No Reason

Sometimes, for me at least, I just feel sad and there's no explanation  I can't seem to muster my lips into any kind of smile, my heart and lungs feel heavy as a sigh escapes my lips every other minute, my voice dwindles away until I've been silent for so long I'm not even sure I can remember how to speak, and an overwhelming feeling of sadness fills me up.

This happened to me too frequently than is healthy, but I definitely know how you can start to shake the feeling of sadness away. Unfortunately, when you're feeling like that, you don't always want to stop, it's almost a bit addictive and you feel too tired and too sad to do anything about it. Anyway, that's another matter for another time.

So here are a few tips to at least lift your mood a little:
  • Try surrounding yourself or talking to people that are uplifting and who are generally happy
  • Stop listening to those sad songs! Put upbeat music on (even One Direction if you really have to... *sigh*) and sing as loud as you can (or at least play it loud through your headphones if it's the middle of the night, I don't want to get you in trouble with your parents or siblings or neighbours).
  • Take a walk, or even a run! Burn away all that sad energy.
  • If you have a dog or a cat, stroke him/her and talk to him/her. Stroking your fury pet will help relax you and pets are great listeners, it'll either help you figure out what's wrong or just get a load off your chest.
  • Cry. Sometimes things are just too much and you need to let it all out and often, crying is a good way to do this. Cry it all out, let the tears roll down your face and into your pillow. Chances are you'll feel much better afterwards, and there's no shame in crying!
  • Ask someone for a hug! Even if it's your pet, whoever is around.
  • Watch your favourite television show, or just watch Friends. Something comedic and happy. Please not the emotionally heart wrenching television shows that leave you feeling empty inside for days.
  • Ice cream. This is a last resort for me because as we all know, ice cream is not healthy. But, if you need to, ice cream. It works wonders.
I hope this helps someone somewhere.

"To Travel Is To Live"

What I wouldn't give to go out into the world and travel day and night. To drive to the airport and catch the first plane out of here. I want to immerse myself in the culture of wherever I've ended up. I want to discover everything I can about the country, it's history and culture, the food, the language, the religion, the rituals and traditions. How they live day to day. I don't believe in travelling to just spend all your time in a luxury five star hotel, or a gorgeous three story shopping mall. Travelling is about adventure, experience, culture. Travelling can teach you so much and is so good for the soul.

So here's my ultimate plan: I finish school here in NZ and move back to England to go to uni, but while I'm waiting for the first term of uni to start, I take a trip and travel around Europe. Despite having lived in England for most of my life, I never traveled around Europe that much, except for frequent visits to see my grandmother in Spain. We would always travel to America, The Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Canada  I'm not complaining! Gosh no, travelling when I was younger was such a blessing, but now I'm older and haven't left NZ for six years, I'm ready to travel again and Europe is where I'd love to go.

I'd love to spend the rest of my life travelling, well maybe that's an exaggeration but I sure don't want to stop like I have for my education. The wanderlust is too much! So maybe sometime soon I might be able to go overseas... Exciting stuff (yet to be confirmed yet though)!

Anyway, Sophie's Wise Life Advice For The Day: Travel, travel, travel! (that's probably not very wise advice actually... ah well!)

Upcoming Art

I've been working on many different pieces of art over the Christmas season and New Year but most of them are still unfinished. However, I have a goal to finish them all so hopefully I'll be posting some of the finish works soon. Just for now though, here's a little collection on some of the bits and bobs I've been creating.

2013 Is Here!

So Christian and I spent New Years together and it was faaaan-tas-tic! I took some clips and videos from throughout the night that I will eventually magically mash together to form a hopefully half decent, half interesting short film... maybe. But for now, there is a photo of us from this morning.

We made sausage rolls from scratch. They were so delicious. We also jumped in the pool at midnight and set off fireworks! We played Sim City 4 and Crash Bandicoot 2 which was so much fun. Although our cities weren't very successful, at least at the beginning. Then for the rest of the evening we ate food, talked and relaxed.

How was your New Year? I hope you kicked 2013 off with a bang! We certainly did (fireworks!!). New Year's resolutions anyone? I know I have a very long list of things to improve about myself although I won't share all of those now. I guess a big one for me this year is to work on my self esteem. I'll get there eventually! :)

I know for me one of the biggest parts of my 2012 were some of the friends I made - Julia and Louise definitely  As well as becoming better friends with Laith, Anna, (Olive, Lizzie and Jim Jam too, although we were already so close) and a few others. All my friends have been such a big part of my year. I know they'll be just as important this year too. Also, I got my drivers license and Christian owes me a dollar. I went into surgery... twice. It sure was an eventful year!

Anyway, I better get going with the rest of New Year's Day and work on those New Year's resolutions.

Happy New Years Everyone! And have a absolutely fantastic 2013!

Happy New Year!
